Wineglass Marathon
Corning, NY
Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I suspect we may be hearing from others about this weekend but I just have to
write...this is the marathon that was not to be for me.

Going to a marathon you trained for and couldn't run sounds like a bummer...but
I had the best time and great company.  Tom and Terry Chaves, Keith Straw and
Tracy Tesfaye joined me up at the Finger Lakes region of NY state after hearing
me tout up this course.  It was a perfect weekend weatherwise.  Corning couldn't
be more charming with its signature glass studios and galleries, plenty of pubs
and places to eat, coffee coffee coffee, and shops for shopping. Terry and I did
our part to contribute to the local economy.  Tom, Keith and Tracy did their
share by running in the Wineglass marathon...Keith coming in first for his age
group and Tracy coming in 4th for hers.....I will let them tell you more about
the course and their finish times.  From what I could see it is a small
marathon, not for those who require full crowd support.  Yet still, it has its
challenges and charm.  Watching 700 runners coming across the bridge into the
finish line still gives me the same chlll as w
ill watching 40,000 hit the finish line next weekend in Chicago.  Anywhere you
run the 26.2 it is still and will always be 26.2.  Not too shabby.

This is a great marathon making for a fun weekend and for those of you who don't
need the crowd support and who could use an age division placement, or even a
top 10 win, Wineglass 2008 may be in the cards for you.  Think about it.

As for my support, thanks to Tom, Terry, Keith and Tracy who made my weekend
ever more enjoyable and hopeful for a full recovery to be back on the roads
stronger and faster.
